What are the Advantages of holding a PAN?
PAN Allows the income tax department to link all financial transactions of the assessee to the department. These transactions are like opening a banks account, applying for goods and services.
How long does it take to get a PAN card now?
A New Application e-PAN Card sends to the given email id in the application in 5 working days. Physical PAN card sends to the communication address in speed post or courier in 10 to 15 working days.
Changes, Correction, Lost, damaged, duplicate, Replacement PAN Card e-PAN sends to given email id (Soft Copy) in the application 10 working days. Physical PAN card sends to the communication address in speed post or courier in 15 to 25 working days.

About PAN Card
Permanent Account Number (PAN) was introduced by the Indian Income Tax Department to help easy retrieval of information and matching information about a taxpayers investment, payment of taxes, raising of loans, assessment, tax demand, tax arrears etc.
The Permanent Account Number (PAN) is unique, national, and permanent. It is unaffected by a change of address, even between states in India.
As a universal identification key, the PAN helps to check all financial transactions of high net worth people and thereby indirectly prevent tax evasion.
Pan Card is issued by the Indian Income Tax Department under the supervision of the Central Board for Direct Taxes and is almost equal to a national identification number. It also serves as an important ID proof.
From 1 January 2005, it has been made mandatory to quote the Permanent Account Number (PAN) on challans for any payments due to Income Tax Department. It is also compulsory to quote PAN in all documents about most financial transactions.
What contains in the PAN card?
PAN card contains information such as Photo, Date of birth for age proof and also complies with the Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines. PAN card details are as follows:
- Name of the cardholder – Individual/ Company
- Name of the father of the cardholder – Applicable for individual cardholders.
- Date of birth – the cardholder’s date of birth in case of an individual or date of registration is mentioned in case of company or firm.
- PAN Number – It is a 10 letter alphanumeric number and each character represents distinct information of the cardholder.
- The first three letters – are wholly indexed and contain three-letter of the alphabet from A to Z.
- The fourth letter – represents the class of the taxpayer.
The various entities and their respective characters are as follows:
- A – Association of Persons
- B – Body of Individuals
- C – Company
- F – Firms
- G – Government
- H – Hindu Undivided Family
- L – Local Authority
- J – Artificial Judicial Person
- P – Individual
- T – Association of Persons for a Trust
- The fifth letter – the fifth letter is the first letter of the individual’s sur name
- Remaining letters – remaining characters are random. The first 4 figures are numbers while the last one is an alphabet.
- Signature of the individual – PAN Card also acts as proof of the individual’s signature required for business transactions.
- Photograph of the individual – PAN acts as a photo identity proof of the individual. In the case of Minor PAN, companies and firms, no photograph is present on the PAN card.

Individual - Any individual Resident of India having a valid aadhaar card copy can apply for a new pan card form called 49A. Trust PAN Card
Trust deed is mandatory to apply for Trust PAN and one of the authorised signatories have to sign on the PAN form 49A.
Society Pan card
Society registration certificate and Deed or bylaws are mandatory to apply for it. one signatory has to sign on the PAN card application.

Instant PAN Card Apply Online
1. Overview
The Instant e-PAN service is available to all Individual taxpayers, who have not been allotted a Permanent Account Number (PAN) but possess Aadhaar. This is a pre-login service
A.Obtain digitally signed PAN in electronic format, free of cost, with the help of Aadhaar and your mobile number linked with Aadhaar,
B.Update PAN details as per Aadhaar e-KYC,
C.Create e-Filing account based on e-KYC details after allotment / updation of PAN, and
D.Check status of pending e-PAN request / Download e-PAN either before or after logging in to the e-Filing portal.
2. Prerequisites for availing this service
Individual who has not been allotted a PAN
Valid Aadhaar and mobile number linked to Aadhaar
User not a minor as on date of request; and
User not covered under the definition of Representative Assessee u/s 160 of the Income Tax Act.
3. Step-by-Step Guide
Generate New e-PAN
Step 1: Go to the e-Filing portal homepage, click Instant e-PAN.
Step 2: On the e-PAN page, click Get New e-PAN.
Step 3: On the Get New e-PAN page, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number, select the I confirm that checkbox and click Continue.
Note:
If the Aadhaar is already linked to a valid PAN, the following message is displayed - Entered Aadhaar Number is already linked with a PAN.
If the Aadhaar is not linked with any mobile number, the following message is displayed - Entered Aadhaar Number is not linked with any active mobile number.
Step 4: On the OTP validation page, click I have read the consent terms and agree to proceed further. Click Continue.
Step 5: On the OTP validation page, enter the 6-digit OTP received on the mobile number linked with Aadhaar, select the checkbox to validate the Aadhaar details with UIDAI and click Continue.
Note:
OTP will be valid for 15 minutes only.
You have 3 attempts to enter the correct OTP.
The OTP expiry countdown timer on screen tells you when the OTP will expire.
On clicking Resend OTP, a new OTP will be generated and sent.
Step 6: On the Validate Aadhaar Details page, select the I Accept that checkbox and click Continue.
Note:
Linking / Validating email ID (registered with your Aadhaar) is optional.
If you have updated your email ID in Aadhaar but it has not been validated, click Validate Email. On the Validate Email ID page, enter the 6-digit OTP received on your mobile number linked with Aadhaar and click Continue.
If you have not updated your email ID in Aadhaar, click Link Email ID. On the Validate Email ID page, enter the 6-digit OTP received on your mobile number linked with Aadhaar and click Continue.
On successful submission, a success message is displayed along with an Acknowledgement Number. Please keep a note of the Acknowledgement ID for future reference. You will also receive a confirmation message on your mobile number linked with Aadhaar.
Dual PAN Card Cancellation
Visit the Nearby Income Tax Department website and go to the 'Surrender Duplicate PAN' option. Enter the details of the duplicate PAN number and the PAN you wish to retain as well as your details such as full name, date of birth (date of incorporation in case of companies), and contact details.
Surrender PAN Card
If you wish to cancel/ surrender your PAN (which you are currently using), then you need to visit your nearby Income Tax Assessing Officer with a request letter to cancel/ surrender your PAN.
